This weekend marked a significant moment for Warner Bros as they launched their Christmas-themed film, “Red One,” in international markets ahead of its domestic release on Amazon. The film raked in an impressive $26.6 million across 75 foreign markets, aligning closely with pre-release expectations. Notably, in Latin America, “Red One” secured the No. 2 spot, trailing only behind the third weekend of “Venom: The Last Dance.” This performance surpasses projections for similar holiday films, such as “Central Intelligence.”

Across Europe, “Red One” is witnessing positive outcomes, currently outpacing films like “Central Intelligence” and “Skyscraper.” The Asian market, particularly excluding heavyweights like China and Japan, was anticipated to underperform. Surprisingly, early reviews emerged positively, positioning “Red One” as either the leading or second U.S. film in nearly all markets except for two. Although its reception is mixed globally, the film excels in niche markets.

Sony’s “Venom: The Last Dance” continues to thrill audiences, pushing the international box office figure to $279.4 million, with a total global earnings nearing $394.2 million. This weekend, “Venom” collected $33 million from 66 international markets, despite a drop of 51% from the previous week, illustrating its resilience. The film’s appeal remains strong in China where it leads with an impressive $82.8 million. The projections indicate a potential final tally of around $93 million in this key market.

Additional markets contributing to its financial success include Mexico ($17.2 million), the UK ($14.3 million), Germany ($11.5 million), and Korea ($11.2 million). The film’s Imax performance is also noteworthy, with a cumulative figure close to $29.6 million.

In the realm of family entertainment, Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot” has also shown remarkable performance, amassing $9 million from 80 markets this weekend. Though it faced a 49% decline from the previous box office count, it has propelled the international cume to $161.6 million and the global total to $292 million, overtaking the box office receipts of “Encanto.”

Among the leading markets for “The Wild Robot” are Mexico ($19.1 million), the UK ($16.5 million), France ($11.7 million), Australia ($10.9 million), and Spain ($9.3 million). The latter has notably benefited from local initiatives like the Fiesta del Cinema, which fueled ticket sales, despite facing challenges from adverse socio-economic conditions in regions such as Valencia.

The current international box office dynamics reveal an intriguing blend of expected successes and unexpected twists. While holiday cheer resonates in some markets through festive releases like “Red One,” others witness the enduring draw of blockbuster franchises such as “Venom.” Amid these trends, it’s clear that diverse storytelling will continue to shape viewing preferences across global audiences. As the holiday season approaches, it remains to be seen how these films will fare in the evolving landscape of cinema entertainment.
